We’ve seen how evidence is gathered to support one theory over others about how massive stars form.

Astronomers at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics KaLYPSO project, and around the world, are trying to reach an even deeper understanding of this fascinating topic. So far, the evidence is incomplete and there are many questions unanswered: How long does the process take? What causes the outflows that spew material from the young star into the interstellar medium? What is the role of the disk, and what happens to it as the star ignites its nuclear fuel and begins to shine? How is the material in the disk converted into planets?
